Carry On Flight Essentials - 2018
Over the years I have realized less really is more! Life is easier when you prioritize and focus on importance & essentials. Well…the same goes for packing and traveling! When it comes to flying, we have learned that sticking to carry-on only, when possible, is necessary! I used to be an extreme packer, like take everything including the kitchen sink (and yes I do realize the saying is “except the kitchen sink”, but in my case I packed that shit too.) Now I only take exactly what I need, and if for any reason I find myself missing something once I get there, I can usually find it nearby.
When flying, you are allowed up to a 22in carry-on luggage and a personal item, such as a purse, backpack, briefcase, etc. In my luggage (that goes in the overhead bin) I keep clothing, shoes, and the majority of my toiletries….basically things I won’t need on the flight itself. I use packing cubes to minimize everything inside and keep it organized.
For my personal item I use a large tote. This way, I can load it up with all my in-flight essentials and still have room to fit my purse that I use during the trip. Below I have listed and linked all of my current flying necessities. Simply click the photo of the item you are interested in and it will bring you to the site. Happy Packing!🖤✈️
Apple AirPods - Michael got these for my birthday last month and I love them! There are no cords to get tangled up and the case also acts as the charger. I use these daily for my phone calls and my music. I loveeeeee classical music, like every morning turn it on/I have a favorite song, loveeee it. But currently Weightless is on repeat! It has been named the #1 anxiety relieving songs ever…and well worth the award. I played it for Michael one night, he thought I was crazy, and 5 minutes later he was passed out! 😏 When I am not listening to classical, I also listen to Post Malone, Imagine Dragons, Eminem, etc. I am a very diverse person, lol. (side note - if you fall asleep with these in, be careful! Michael lost his twice on the flight home. We did find them before we got off the plane, but it sure was a pain in the ass locating them at 5:00am after flying all night.)
Anker Portable Charger - This is a GAME CHANGER, legit! I have been through so many portable chargers and none of them compare to this one. Anker offers a few different options, you can choose from 1, 2, or 3 USB ports and different sized battery packs. I choose the one with 2 ports, which can charge my iPhone up to 8 times on a single charge…say what?! (The portable charger itself does take about 10 hours to completely charge up after a full use.) I can’t tell you how many times I have been traveling or at a theme park when my phone dies, and then my portable charger would only last 20 minutes…so frustrating…😬 So if you don’t have a decent charger….do yourself a favor and get this one! It comes in black too!
MacBook Pro - My computer comes with me everywhere I go, seriously….everywhere; work, home, planes, car rides to Orlando, dinner (just because I don’t want to leave it in the car silly 😂😜 haha). But there is always something for me to do or work on; emails, blog posts, editing photos, or just to watch Downtown Abbey (its my obsession). The new MacBook Pro is very slim and it just slides right into my tote. I got this computer earlier this year and it is the best money I have ever spent!
iPhone 8 Plus - My phone….again this comes with me everywhere. I use it for my boarding passes, itinerary, entertainment, reminders, oh…and as a telephone too. 🤦🏻♀️😂 Phones these days have and do everything, including also acting as my camera when I don’t have my Canon. Can anyone live without their phone these days?!
Power Cord Organizer - Have you ever been traveling and your headphone cords get all tangled with your power cord, or how about the “where did I pack that charging block” moment? Well fear no more! This case allows you to keep everything together AND organized. When we went to California, I kept my computer & phone charger inside, along with my converter cords, charging block, and my AirPods…..they all fit nice and neatly in this organizer. So anytime I needed to access my stuff, I just grabbed it out of my tote and there it was….just as I had packed it. No more fumbling around in your bag to find them!
Eye Mask - This is an everyday essential, not just for traveling! I wear an eye mask nightly to help me sleep. I like everything to be super blacked out during the evening, it helps me rest easier. Especially when you are traveling or on an airplane, it is very important to chill your body out and relax. Covering up your eyes and listening to a little music (Weightless anyone!?) is a very easy way to do just that!
Neck Pillow - This goes hand and hand (or eye and neck - haha, I crack myself (pun intended) up)….lets see how many parentheses I can get inside of another. Anyways, back to the pillow, this is another item that can make life a lot more comfy and easy when traveling or just life in general. Along with the eye mask, I too use a neck pillow even at home in the evenings. I was involved in a car accident a few years back and for the first year after, using a neck pillow was the only way I could sleep comfortably. I would use it to keep my neck upright at night. However, while traveling, it also makes resting a little easier. Besides wearing it around my neck, I also use it propped on the window OR I place it on the tray table and lean forward to sleep. The one I have has a snap connecting the open ends of the pillow, so I am able to just hook it around luggage handle and go!
Adidas Sweater - If you don’t already wear comfortable clothes on the plane like I do (I would travel in pajamas if possible), I suggest to bring along a sweater or a scarf. You will want something to use as a blanket and to keep warm on the plane and in the airport.
Bag Organizer - This beautiful, little creation is the best thing evvverrrrrr. It comes in 3 different sizes and multiple colors. You just place it in your bag and boom, organization! Everything listed on this blog post fits perfectly in this baby. It has big and little compartments, a spot for your water bottle, pockets on the outside, and handles for an easy removal. Keep all your organized items, organized. 😜💁🏻 (side note: I pack a few other loose things in this organizer that are not listed on this blog such as hand sanitizer (bottle & wipes), contact solution, and lip balm.)
Swell Water Bottle - I love this water bottle! Swell offers it in many sizes and colors. I purchased the 9oz bottle. It’s small, keeps drinks cold for hours, perfect for traveling and fits right into my purse organizer. I will fill it up before I head to the airport, go through security with it empty (after I drink it of course), and fill it back up when I get to the gate. It is always good news to have a little water on your person while traveling, or anytime.
Girl, Wash Your Face - It is always a good idea to have some form of non-electronic entertainment while traveling. For me, I love a good book. I’m sure you have heard of this one by now….it is a #1 New York Times Bestseller and a lot of people are diving into it! I have not quite finished it yet but so far I am loving it! (hey…i’ve been catching up on my Netflix shows! Breaking Bad, Ozark, Disjointed anyone?!)
“With painful honesty and fearless humor, Rachel unpacks and examines the falsehoods that once left her feeling overwhelmed and unworthy, and reveals the specific practical strategies that helped her move past them. In the process, she encourages, entertains, and even kicks a little butt, all to convince you to do whatever it takes to get real and become the joyous, confident woman you were meant to be.”
Beauty Counter Balancing & Charcoal Spray - Lately my skin care regime has consisted of only Beauty Counter and Mindful Mineral Products. They are both natural and clean skin care lines that actually work. I have tried out quite a few of the BC products and I am really enjoying this particular face mist. I keep it in my bag for anytime I am feeling a little dry or just need a refresher.
“Active-infused and alcohol-free, this revitalizing mist preps skin, sets makeup, and refreshes throughout the day. Specially formulated with charcoal powder and kaolin clay, it absorbs excess oil, refines skin texture, and helps calm redness. Perfect for those concerned with clarity, calming, and balancing.”
Adidas Baseline Sneakers - One of the most important things (for me anyways) is a good pair of shoes. When traveling you do a lot of walking and I would rather be comfortable during plane rides or hanging out in the airport than not. You can get irritated and stressed a lot easier when you are tired, and something as simple as a decent pair of sneakers can make all the difference. Plus, they look clean af 👍🏻😂
Kind Bar - Last, but most certainly not least, a snack! You are not you when your hungry, and I do know that is the truth! Most airlines offer complimentary snacks on the flight, but again, it is always smart to have your own, just incase. Kind Bars are filling, dairy free and plant based….delicious!
I hope you benefited from this post and learned a few tips! I love to travel, it’s the best way to spend your free time and money (at least I think so). The more prepared you are, the less stressed you should be, and the smoother the vacation will be! So remember to pack light, only bring the essentials and dress comfy! Until my next trip…..✈️
